An excellent variety of art galleries and boutiques are popping up across Rio de Janeiro, offering a variety of styles, from graffiti admirers to water-colour fanatics.

The majority of the finer new galleries are emerging in the southern neighbourhoods within Ipanema and Leblon, but the centre also boasts some impressive art galleries as well. Santa Teresa’s annual ‘Portas Abertas’ (Open Doors) exhibition, when local artists open their ateliers to the public, is a must-see for art lovers.
